To note   Ask us for advice on renovation

The property, which can be described as an apartment of sorts, is on two levels and is located in the historical part of of the village, which is itself historical. It is constructed in the characteristic style of the area from an epoch when stone was the rage.

it is in need of renovation, though it is felt that this would not be the cause of any serious anxiety on the part of anyone interested in buying it, a person who would see in it the potential to be a fabulous retreat from the cares of the world.

However, should you find yourself hankering after those cares every now and then, they are easy to find. Simply drive the short distance (20Km, 12 miles) to the shores of the Mediterranean and there you will find the seaside town of Sapri and a coastline that rivals - and Italians say is better - than that of Amalfi. The 25 minute car journey (2 hours horse back, 2-3 days stubborn mule) is a delight in itself, passing through the olive covered hills of the Cilento National Park, a UNESCO protected area (so look after it).

The village of Tortorella itself is quiet, being host to only 246 families. Most of the population accepts this order, except the bell ringers on sunday morning who imagine it is there duty to wake everyone up. People are welcoming, interested and yet respectful of visitors. It is therefore an ideal place to experience life as it is, whilst also holding the unrivalled status of foreigner.

Local Delights: Olive trees, olive oil, wine, fresh air, pristine landscapes and longevity.

The Cilento region has become famous for its inhabitants' long-lived lives, probably due to a combination of high oxygen (you can definitely sniff it early morning), olive oil (believe us, its the best), chili peppers and, if the locals are to be believed, having many children. However, for men, you are advised to bring your own women -at least to start - and women, you are advised to keep an eye on your men.

Over all comments: A beautiful spot and excellent opportunity to enjoy simplicity, nature and quality yet be within easy reach of insanity if required. Perfect for writers, musicians artist and anyone on the run.
